Diagnostic Peritoneal Larvage Versus Computerized Axial Tomgraphy in Evaluating the Abodominal Trauma

Abstract
We reviewed our experience with 97 diagnostic peritoneal larvages(DPI) and 74 computerized axial tomographys(CAT) obtained in the resuscitative phase over an 1-year period in Chonnam National Uniersity Hospital to determine the merits in
evaluating
the
abdominal trauma associated with each modality and to make an easy and accurate information before emergent operation.
The DPL was more sensitive in internal bleeding due to solid organ rupture and hollow viscus perforation than CAT, however, if there were combine with retroperitoneal hemorrhage, the false positive rate was increased.
In CAT, it was a valuable diagnostic modality of retroperitoneal hemorrhage and enable to make a decision of emergent operation need or not in solid organ ruptures and retroperitoneal hemorrhages. So, if patient's state was tolerable, DPL after
CAT
are
more accurate diagnostic tool for the abdominal trauma and will make a help in escape from the needless negative exploration of the abdomem.
